Women’s Formal Wear

formalWhen it comes to women’s formal wear, the only thing that comes to mind is elegant dresses and gowns. Of course, the little black dress (or the LBD as it’s popularly referred to as) is a very elegant and a classy dress to wear to any formal occasion or event.

The elegant dresses come in a lot of materials such as silk, taffeta, chiffon, lace, jersey and many more. The color for the season right now is purple and mauve but other colors such as wine, golden, navy blue, teal and other pastel shades look just as nice. These elegant dresses can be teamed up with a bolero or shawls. Empire line dresses accentuate the bust and the waist and focus attention on these areas while drawing attention away from the hips and the buttocks.

Necklines and embellishments set off the dress from others

Deep neckline, swooping necklines and square necklines accentuate the cleavage and show off the bare shoulders and the long necks. The gowns are form fitting. There are a number of sizes and colors as well as styles that are available for these evening dresses. (more…)

European Wedding Traditions

The engagement ring traditions

One of the ancient traditions of Western Europe which is still going strong today is the idea of the engagement ring. It was way back in 860 A.D. that Pope Nicholas I proclaimed that not only was an engagement ring required to seal the agreement to be married, but that the engagement ring must be made of gold. The making of the ring out of gold signified that the groom was willing to make a financial sacrifice for his new bride-to-be.

It would be another 617 years before the tradition of adding a diamond to an engagement ring would be started. It was in the year 1477 that King Maximilian presented the lovely Mary of Burgundy with a diamond engagement ring, and from that day to this a diamond has been a girl’s best friend.

It was in Italy, the land of love, that gold wedding rings first became popular, and it was also in Italy that the tradition of the wedding cake was first begun when, in the first century B.C., a cake or bread was broken over the bride’s head to insure fertility.

The tradition of the Best Man began in medieval Germany

It was in ancient Germany that the Western European tradition of a Best Man began. In olden days it was sometimes necessary for a man to kidnap his bride from a neighboring village and he needed his strongest friend (his Best Man) to help with the kidnapping and to stand by him at the wedding ceremony to fight off any relatives that might try to take her back.

The white wedding dress was not a symbol of purity, but rather a symbol of joy

What wedding today would be complete without the white wedding dress? Prior to the 16th century, however, this most important Western European Wedding tradition was not common. It wasn’t until Ann of Brittany popularized the white wedding dresses in 1499 that the tradition became part of Western European wedding culture.

During the Tudor period in England it became customary for the wedding party to throw old shoes but not wedding shoes at the bride and groom’s carriage; if the carriage was struck by a shoe it was considered a symbol of good fortune to follow. From this old Western European wedding custom was born the tradition of typing shoes to the back of the broom and bride’s car. Get wedding underwear here!.

And finally it is time for the groom to carry his new bride across the threshold

And finally, what wedding tradition would be complete with the groom carrying his new bride over the threshold of their home? This Western European tradition began with two beliefs. The first one was that if the bride were to trip or stumble as she entered her new home (as she crossed her new threshold for the first time) bad luck would plague the marriage. The second belief was that evil spirits inhabited the threshold of a new couple’s home and that if the bride stepped on the threshold the evil spirits would enter through her feet and the marriage would be doomed.

The romantic answer, of course, was for the groom to carry his new bride across the threshold. Western European wedding traditions have come down to us from many countries and many cultures to blend together seamlessly into the romantic wedding traditions that we know and cherish today.

Electronic Cigarettes as a Fashion Accessory

Many people have made the switch to electronic cigarettes, otherwise known as e cigarettes, vapor cigarettes, or steam cigarettes.  These ultra modern devices are actually gaining ground as a fashion accessory.  Not only do people keep the nasty second hand smoke away when they puff vapor through these cutting edge devices, but they also look hip, especially with the classy look of some of the e cigs out there like Blu Cigs.

Blu Cigs has a different look and feel than most others, and they are perhaps the brand with the most sex appeal.  They market heavily to the “club goers” and party crowd, and they seem to be doing a good job with it.  Their alternative to smoking device is much more chic than other people’s offers as it is smaller, for starters, than the rest of the e cig offers out there.  The tip lights up blue, and it lets people know “hey I’m an electric cigarette – not the real thing.”  This is sort of cool because other companies all light up with the standard orange color and really do look like cigarettes when you boil it all down.  Some people prefer this, but others want to look like it’s not a real cig as they don’t want to be associated with the perils of smokers.

Smoking is a bad, bad habit, and electronic cigarettes are becoming a trend that people enjoy taking part in.  The e cigs are available with sexy carrying case that make it a fashionable counterpart to even the most “manhattan” of people.

Where Blu cigs will go is up for grabs.  The company is currently a leading seller of these devices, but of course if you read e cigarette reviews you will see there are plenty of other companies out there looking to grab the attention of the almighty consumer.  While Blu Cigs may be the most in-your-face option for the fashionistas out there, there are certainly more options for people looking to quit smoking tobacco cigarettes.
