Dressing Up Your Jeans
Do you have a pair of jeans that’s a little too perfect? We’ve all had this problem: You may have 10 or 20 pairs of jeans, but there’s that one, favorite pair that you wish you could wear over and over, for all occasions. And the worst part is, in most cases, when you try to buy a second pair that is exactly the same, it’s never quite right. Some magical algorithm of mysterious, non-repeatable elements made that one pair of jeans absolutely perfect, and even the automated processes of clothing factories can’t make it happen more than once.
Here’s the thing: You don’t have to worry about it. By nature, jeans are meant to be worn more than other types of clothing. Unless you wear them on a hot day or spill something on them, you can usually get away with wearing jeans two or three times in between washing them. Sure, you might want to keep it to yourself sometimes, but no one’s paying as close attention as you might think.
Plus, in this day and age, there’s really no stigma attached to wearing jeans for many types of dress-up and quasi dress-up occasions. All you have to do is follow one of these tips, and you’ll have no problem dressing up your jeans.
Wear them with a nice jacket and nice shoes. The easiest way to dress up your jeans is to get fancy with everything else in your outfit. Wear a nice belted jacket and some dress-up shoes, and you’ll instantly elevate your jeans to dressy status.
Distract with accessories. If you don’t want people to notice that your favorite jeans are not quite right for an occasion, use things like bags, sunglasses, and other bright accessories to draw attention away from the jeans.
Use a feminine blouse. The more girly your top, the less people will notice that your bottoms aren’t dress pants. Within reason, of course, wear a bright blouse with some nice ruffles and an attractive pattern. No matter whether you’re wearing jeans or slacks, your blouse will sell your outfit and make it look like you’re truly dressed for the occasion.
Use heels. No matter what type of pants you wear, heels are always going to make you a little bit dressier. Of course, heels alone can’t turn an everyday outfit into a fancy dressing gown, but within certain limits, you can really class up your outfit with some fashionable footwear.
Get a blazer. Traditionally, blazers haven’t always been considered one of the best tops to go with a pair of jeans, but these days, blazers and jeans have become a fashionable combo. In fact, you can wear a nice feminine blazer with almost anything, and you’ll automatically look dressed for success.
Go black. If your favorite pair of jeans is black, then you don’t have to resort to deceptive tricks. On the casual-to-dressy scale, black jeans are higher than jeans of any other color. So, if you’re careful with the rest of your outfit, you can wear black jeans to practically any fancy occasion.
